FAQ

Questions about Period Panties

How do menstrual panties work?

Menstrual panties absorb menstruation and prevent any leakage keeping you protected at all times and eliminating the need to use other menstrual hygiene products. You no longer have to choose between comfort and safety.

How should I wash and dry them?

Soak them in cold water for about 40 minutes to remove the blood. If it is not completely removed, you can use neutral soap and baking soda. Let them soak for a while longer and finally, wash them by hand or in the washing machine at a maximum temperature of 40 ºC.

Once you did the washing process, stretch your panty and let it air dry. Ideally, it should dry in the sun. Avoid putting them in the dryer because they can shrink or lose their absorbency properties.

How long can I wear them?

This will depend on the amount of your flow. For some women, this may be 8 hours, but others need to change earlier. When you start to feel some wetness on the edges of your panties, it is time to put on new ones. As a tip, you can use a piece of paper on the side of the panty to make sure.

We always have at least a 3-pack of panties (and some extra panties in your bag if you are going to be away from home for a long time).

Do they work if I have a very heavy flow?

Yes, there will be no problem. All of our period panties absorb the equivalent of 3 conventional tampons. If you have a hefty flow, this simply means that you will need to change them more frequently.

Do all your menstrual panties have the same level of absorbency?

Yes, all our panties absorb the equivalent of 3 disposable tampons and offer up to 8 hours of total protection.

The ones that we suggest using only at the beginning or end of your period are the thongs because they absorb less blood due to their natural design.

How many will I need for each menstruation?

While that depends entirely on the amount of your flow and how long your period lasts, we suggest having a 3-pack of panties to test how they feel and how often it is useful to change them.

You should also consider whether you want to wear them all day long, only at certain times, or even at night as well. That will also determine if you need to add more panties to your collection.

Will I feel wet if I wear panties for my period?

The top layer allows blood to drain and be absorbed and stored in the next layer. Thus the vulva is not in contact with the blood and the last layer remains soft and dry.

How do I know the size of my menstrual panties?

Each of our panties has its size chart indicating the centimeters & inches of the hip and waist to know exactly which one to choose.

Depending on the design there may be slight variations. Always guide yourself through each size chart.

If you still doubt your size, you can contact us through our chat or by email to info@theecowoman.com. We can help you choose your best fit!

What is the difference between classic and seamless panties?

The difference between one panty and the other lies in their design. The classic ones have seams, and the others, as the name says, do not have seams. It was designed to be as comfortable and similar to your regular panties.

What is the difference between menstrual panties and incontinence panties?

The main difference is that incontinence briefs have a larger absorption area that covers up to the hips. The rest of the panties have a coverage area up to the butt. However, they all have the same level of absorbency and guarantee up to 8 hours of total protection and comfort.

Can I use a period panty as a swimsuit?

No! The type of fabric used in panties is different from the one used in swimsuits. Bikinis are designed specifically to be used in the water. On the outside, they are made of lycra like regular bikinis, and on the inside, they have 5 layers of wicking to prevent leakage.

Can I use menstrual panties for postpartum?

No problem at all. You will feel much more comfortable and confident wearing menstrual panties for postpartum. We even recommend wearing incontinence panties for these cases as they have a larger area of coverage.

Can I use menstrual panties to practice sports?

Yes, of course. Many customers do it every month and have left positive reviews about it. We suggest trying them at home or work first, and once you feel comfortable, try your favorite sporting activity with them.

Questions about Period Swimsuits

How do menstrual bikinis work?

Our menstrual swimsuit has been specifically designed to swim while menstruating.

Our anti-leakage technology causes blood to be absorbed by the menstrual swimsuit while the waterproof layer prevents blood from leaking out of the menstrual bikini.

It is perfect for your whole period; those days when you don't know if your period is coming and you just want to be covered, as well as those when the flow is heavier.

Once you did the washing process, stretch your bikini and let it air dry. Ideally, it should dry in the sun. Avoid putting them in the dryer because they can shrink or lose their absorbency properties

For how long can I wear them?

Like the rest of our products, it will depend on your flow and comfort, but the swimsuits are designed to hold up to 8 hours and prevent leakage in that time.

What is the absorbance of the swimsuit?

Its absorption level is equivalent to 2 disposable tampons or up to 8 hours of protection. You'll never have to worry about leaks or stains again when you're at the pool or in the ocean.

On what occasions you don’t suggest wearing a menstrual bikini?

We do not recommend using it when your flow is excessive or if you have hemorrhagic menstruation. At least not using it as the only menstrual hygiene product in such cases.

How long does the period swimwear last?

The period swimsuit can be used for up to 5 years.

What are they made of?

On the outside, they are made of lycra like regular bikinis, and on the inside, they have 5 layers of absorption to avoid leaks.

How do I know which size to choose?

The menstrual swimsuit is a little smaller than your regular bikini because it should be tight to fully protect you from leaks and ensure complete absorption. That is why when deciding on your size, we recommend choosing one size bigger than your usual.

In any case, you can find the size chart with the specific measurements on the product page.

Will the blood come out of the swimsuit into the pool or the sea?

The seams and the waterproof part prevent blood from leaking out of the menstrual swimsuit.

Even if water gets into the swimsuit or you move, the blood won’t get out. You’ll not have to worry about leaks.

Do I have to change my swimsuit every time get into the water?

No! The idea of the swimsuit is to enjoy your summer without worrying about menstruating. That's why you should only change if it's been 8 hours or sooner if your flow is too heavy.

If this is your first time using it, we suggest trying it for fewer hours and seeing how you feel.

Does the swimsuit swell when in contact with water?

No, it is specifically designed so that it does not swell or feel uncomfortable when it comes in contact with water. This is thanks to its wicking layers and DryFit technology.

Does it smell after bathing in the water?

While obviously after the 8 hours, you should change it to be sure you won't stain or leak, during that time the swimsuit does not smell or stain.

Does it include the top or only the bottom?

Our product is only the bikini bottom part, i.e. we do not sell the bikini top.

Questions about Reusable Pads and Pantyliners

How do they work?

Our cloth pads are available in 2 different sizes (one for daytime and one for nighttime) to fit your flow. They can absorb up to 3 times more than a tampon and keep you protected for up to 8 hours, depending on your flow. You won’t need to use other menstrual products.

The pantyliners are ideal for the first or last days of your period, or to use as a complement to the menstrual cup. Their absorption capacity is the equivalent of 1 conventional tampon.

Both have 5 layers of natural fabrics that will ensure fast absorption, maximum comfort, and zero leakage.

How do I wear them?

The eco-friendly bamboo fabric should face you, and the print part should fave your panties. Use the buttons to adjust and prevent them from moving around.

Once you did the washing process, stretch your pad or pantyliner and let it air dry. Ideally, it should dry in the sun. Avoid putting them in the dryer because they can shrink or lose their absorbency properties.

Will I stain the rest of my clothes if I wash them in the washing machine?

Not at all! By soaking them before, you ensure that the blood comes out of your menstrual product. And even if there is a stain, it won't affect the rest of your clothes if you wash them with cold water.

How long can I wear them?

This will depend on the amount of your flow. For some women, this may be 8 hours, but others need to change sooner. As soon as you start to feel wetness in the pad, it is time to use a new one.

If I am away from home, where can I store my pads or pantyliners so that they do not smell or stain?

All our packs come with a free waterproof bag just for these occasions. If you are away from home and need to change your pad or pantyliners, you can carry them in your bag. It guarantees that there will be no odors or stains in your bag.

How do I know which size to choose?

It will also depend on your flow, but you may find it useful to have a pack containing the different sizes to use at different times of your period:

  • The pantyliner can be used for your light days of flow or combined with the cup.
  • Daytime pads for normal flows that are not extremely heavy.
  • The night pad is ideal for your days of heavy flow or for sleeping through the night without leaking.
How many will I need for each menstruation?

While it will depend on your body and your flow, we suggest having a 6-pack of pads to use and washing them without rushing.

If you are just getting started with reusable products, choose a 3-pack of pads or panty liners, see how you feel with them, and how long you determine you can wear them.

Most women who use only pads or pantyliners during menstruation have an average of 12-18.

What are they made of?

Pads and pantyliners are made with natural materials such as organic bamboo and cotton. They are free of chemicals and plastics. They have 5 layers of natural fabrics and DryFit technology to guarantee your comfort and complete absorption of menstrual blood.

How long do they last?

You can reuse our menstrual products for up to 5 years. Once you have the pack you need, you will save a lot of money every month!

Do they feel the same as disposable pads or are they uncomfortable?

The pads and pantyliners emulate the disposable ones, but without the feeling of irritation or chafing on the skin. They are soft and even more comfortable. Their absorbent layers are so thin you’ll hardly feel like you're wearing them.

Can I sleep with a reusable pad and not stain?

Yes! To sleep comfortably, we recommend using a night pad because it has a bigger absorption capacity, and will guarantee a good night.

If your flow is very abundant, you can also use it as a complement to your menstrual cup or other menstrual product.

General Questions

What certifications do the products have?

All our products have the OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification, which verifies that there are no harmful substances in textiles or the manufacturing stages.

Do the products have fragrances?

No, our products are free of fragrances or perfumes to avoid any type of allergy or alteration of the vagina.

Will I see stains on products after use?

As products designed to absorb menstrual blood, it is normal to see stains after a long time of using them, but with the proper washing and drying, they shouldn’t be affected.

Is it hygienic to use reusable menstrual products?

Yes, it is completely safe and hygienic to use our reusable products. You only need to change them after using them for 8 hours to avoid infections or allergies.

Why shouldn't I use fabric softener or bleach?

We don’t recommend using fabric softeners or bleach because they can modify their absorbent function and limit their years of use. The more natural the washing process, the better it is for your reusable products.

What can I do if my products smell after using them?

If you have washed them as indicated and they still smell, we suggest soaking your products in water with vinegar for 40 minutes. Once the time has passed, you should repeat the washing process either by hand or put them in the washing machine with the rest of your clothes.

Can I create a pack with different patterns of pads or colors on my panties?

Yes! If you want to combine prints on your pads or want more than one color/size in a pack of menstrual panties, you have to contact our customer service team through the chat in our store or email us at info@theecowomancom and tell them how you would like it to be.
