In the last few years, we have seen the appearance of extraordinary products for women's menstrual cycle such as ecopads and heating pads.

If you want to know more about eco-pads read here.

Many women are prone to experience uncomfortable menstrual cramps, which can appear before, during, or after the menstrual period.

Cramps are a pain located mostly in the lower abdomen, which varies in intensity depending on the case. However, these cramps can be treated in several ways. One of them is through heat, where heating pads become the protagonists.

Are heating pads really effective in relieving menstrual pain?

Menstrual cramps are a condition that is present in many women during their reproductive years. It is estimated that at least 4 out of 5 women experience pain of varying intensities before, during, or after the menstrual cycle.

Prostaglandins is one of the substances responsible for these annoying pains.  Its main function is to exert contraction in the smooth muscle. This is essential to expel all the waste from the endometrium during the menstrual cycle.

However, some women may have a slightly excessive release of this substance. This results in much more powerful and abrupt contractions.

Heating pads: Benefits of thermotherapy for pain relief.

One of the alternatives to relieve menstrual cramps and pelvic inflammation menstruation causes is through heat therapies. There are multiple benefits that can be obtained.

  • Effects on the pain threshold: Heat has positive effects on the peripheral nervous system. This results in a marked increase in the pain threshold. This gives us a perception that menstrual pain is much milder.

  • Relaxation of the uterus: One of the most noticeable effects generated by heat at the soft tissue level is total relaxation, causing the distension of the tissue fibers. The uterus is composed of smooth muscle, and in consequence, it responds very positively to the stimuli caused by heat.

  • Natural analgesic and anti-inflammatory: Heat considerably increases the distribution of blood flow at the muscle level. This results in greater nutrition and better oxygenation of the tissues, thus ensuring a better recovery. This is why you will be able to relieve pain and reduce inflammation in a much faster way.

Types of heating pads you can find:

  • Seed heat packs: Like the ecopads, this is a handmade pillow made of very delicate cotton fabric. Both its shape and size are standardized and can be used in any part of the body. In addition to menstrual pain, it is recommended for bruises, contractures, and contusions.
  • Thermic girdle for lumbar pain:
  • This type of girdle represents an effective solution to pain present in the upper back, lower back, and pelvic area. They have a size that allows them to be used in wide areas such as legs, back, abdomen, and buttocks.
  • Thermal bag in the shape of a bottle. It is a very original and vintage model that represents the classic hot water bottle but with a much more modern and comfortable design. This thermal bag can be used in many areas of the body including, of course, the pelvic area.
  • Seeded heating pad: This pillow is designed for use in the neck area. Although it is designed for the cervical area, it is also very effective for the pelvic area in case of menstrual cramps.

If you suffer intense pain that makes you feel weak and tired, don't worry! Many women suffer from these terrible cramps. Even if they are painful, we should not let them ruin our daily routines.

Always be attentive and prepared.  Bring a kit with your ecopads, underwear, and emergency leggings. Furthermore, you should, of course, have a heating pad to feel much more comfortable.
