Women have employed countless methods to feel more comfortable when facing their menstrual period. The invention of disposable sanitary pads meant more convenience and practicality for many women, as it was just one product to use and dispose of.

However, at the time of its launching, the incredible environmental impact of these products could not be foreseen, and over the years, more chemical components have been added to "improve their design", what enterprises don’t mention is that these additives caused discomfort and harm to the female intimate areas.

Things are changing, today we can see how the use of reusable cloth sanitary pads has resurfaced.  Unlike those used by our grandmothers, they are much better designed to be more comfortable, convenient, and in tune with our daily lives and occupations.

But what is the real difference between a reusable pad and an eco-friendly one? Let's find out!

These are the clearest and most noticeable differences between disposable pads and reusable pads:

- Components from which they are made.

Both disposable tampons and sanitary pads are composed of a myriad of components such as cotton, cellulose, and plastics, as well as chemicals such as dioxins and absorbent gels, all of them so powerful that they can absorb even the natural moisture of the skin.

Reusable pads, on the other hand, give you the option to choose which materials will be in contact with your skin. You can opt for natural materials, or you can also choose synthetic ones, such as polyester and polyurethane, for greater impermeability.

All these materials allow breathability in your intimate area and prevent various allergies that many women suffer from because of the chemical components of disposable pads.

- Their impact on the environment.

Both disposable pads and tampons have a horrendous environmental impact. Their components can take up to hundreds of years to degrade.

Picture this with us: A woman has approximately 40 fertile years, and once a month she has to use at least 10 disposable pads. What would be the amount of waste she’ll be generating to the environment be? What would be left for future generations?

In the case of reusable sanitary pads, this does not usually happen. These kinds of pads contribute positively to the environment since they are washable and reusable, they allow us to generate less waste for the planet. A single sanitary napkin can last up to three years.

- The economic benefits they bring

Have you ever thought about the amount of disposable sanitary pads a woman uses every year? Yes, it is a lot! So, the expense we make to supply ourselves with them is incredible.

Not to mention that not all women have the same economic facilities, so for some, it could be really complicated to afford their menstrual period pads.

In addition to their incredible benefits for your intimate area and care of the environment, reusable pads also represent a remarkable balance on the economic scale; with just the purchase of a pack of reusable cloth pads, you will have menstrual hygiene products for years!

Purchasing reusable pads or reusable panties for the first time may seem strange to you, but we can tell you that it will really pay off. Not only will you be contributing to the environment, but you will be thinking more about your physical and economic health.

We invite you to be part of The Eco Woman.
